This simple and delicious recipes was shared with us by Tisha… an amazing woman whose name is synonymous with the word “Energy”! She beams the joy and love of Jesus through her smile and her voice and the words that she speaks. Becky and I have both been privileged to call her our friend for the last 30 years!
She shared this little gem of a recipe with us and said,
“When the sugar monster is knocking at my door, I answer with a smile and a homemade energy bite in hand and say ‘I’m not interested, go away!’”
After making them myself, I would have to agree with her. Just one little serving is sweet and filling enough to help ward off other cravings.
While you will find lots of other recipes like this, many with fancy superfoods that are certainly good options when you can get them… sometimes it’s wonderful to go back to the simple goodness of ingredients that you already have on hand and that can be thrown together in a few minutes.
We recommend making these with the best ingredients you can find and afford. For me, that was the organic quick cooking oats that I find in my grocers bulk section and some good quality naturally sweetened chocolate chips. You can use a good natural peanut butter, or Tisha tells us she will sometimes use a mixture of almond or cashew butter to replace part of the peanut butter. It’s kind of hard to mess these up as long as you end up with the right consistency at the end. So feel free to make substitutions. Maybe raisins instead of chocolate chips or some flax or chia to replace part of the oats. Try slivered almonds or toasted walnuts if you don’t like the sunflower seeds. Just keep the ratios about the same and you should end up with a tasty little treat.
Tisha says, “The best morning snack ever is a cup of dark roast french pressed coffee and one of my energy bites…. Take a sip and then a small bite, smile and repeat.”
Wish we could sit and enjoy that morning snack with you, Tish 🙂
My son has a favorite saying, “Always be yourself, unless you can be a Jedi, then be a Jedi.”
Well, my daughter and I have adapted that quote… we like to say “Always be yourself, unless you can be a Tisha, then be a Tisha!” She has an amazing way of making others feel loved and special and she will gladly tell you that it is because she is first loved by her Creator and she just lets His love flow through her to those around her… that is something we can all aspire to.
So enjoy this little treat from our dear friend and catch her weekday mornings as the host of 95.5 The FISH radio show in Honolulu, Hawaii.
